Community Facilities Strategy

The community facilities strategy provides a framework to guide our decisions on investing in community facilities over the next 20 years. This was adopted in July 2017.

The Strategy provides direction on the development of new facilities, major upgrades of existing facilities and optimisation of facilities no longer meeting the community’s needs.

Our aim was to ensure the district’s existing facilities address the needs of the community, avoid gaps or duplication, cope with population growth and changing user expectations, and meet the future demand in the long term.

This was the first Community Facilities Strategy that’s been developed for the Kāpiti Coast District and was one of the key activities in our FutureKāpiti Long term plan 2015-35.

Opportunities for feedback

Last year, representatives of groups, clubs and organisations that manage, own and use facilities in our district, and other members of the community, provided useful input to help us shape the strategy. This was achieved through workshops, surveys and an online questionnaire.
