We regularly carry out maintenance works to keep our roads around the district in tip-top shape.
Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe. While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible, we know roadworks can be inconvenient and frustrating. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we do this important work.
Local roads can be resurfaced with chipseal or asphalt, and while we do this work we put traffic management plans in place to make sure there's as little disruption as possible to road users.
Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits.
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. If bad weather strikes, work will be postponed to the next suitable day or night.
The road has been closed at MacKay’s Crossing and the bottom of Maungakotukutuku Road, so there is no through access between Emerald Glen Road and Valley Road due to the high possibility of a slip occurring.
Safety is clearly our primary concern here. Once we have carried out further assessment, we will have a clearer picture of how much material we need to remove and how long the road closure may be.
October - November
RAUMATI SOUTH VILLAGE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS
When: Underway. These improvements are expected to be completed by late November.
What: We’re establishing a raised pedestrian crossing on Poplar Avenue outside the Raumati Social Club and Gatsby Tapas to help create a slow zone through the Raumati South Village.
The raised pedestrian crossing will replace the existing zebra crossing and forms part of a series of safety improvements and traffic calming measures that are being implemented on Poplar Avenue.
Traffic management will be in place at all times and people moving through or visiting the Raumati South Village are encouraged to extra care around the construction site. A temporary pedestrian crossing will be established slightly to the east of the existing crossing to allow the raised crossing to be constructed.
POPLAR AVENUE/LEINSTER AVENUE RIGHT TURN BAY
When: Underway. These improvements are expected to be complete by late 2017
What: We’re establishing a right-turn bay on Poplar Avenue for traffic turning into Leinster Avenue from the east. Pram ramps and a pedestrian island will also be installed on Leinster Avenue to enable people to cross the road safely and connect with the southern-end of the Mackays to Peka Peka Cycleway, Walkway and Bridleway.
The work involves removing power powers and shifting the kerb line on the south side of Poplar Ave to create space for the right turn bay. Traffic management will be in place to enable the work to be carried out safely.
WAITOHU VALLEY ROAD WIDENING
When: Underway. Completion expected late 2017
What: Work to widen Waitohu Valley Road to address safety concerns raised by residents through the 2016/17 Annual Plan process are underway. Approximately 75 percent of the road widening has been completed and sealed. Work to complete the balance will progress as weather allows. Traffic management will be in place at all times.
RAUMATI ROAD/RATA ROAD MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS
What: Now that Expressway construction traffic is off Raumati Road, we need to do some work to repair the road surface between Rimu and Rata Roads. We've carried out some works to repair this section, and we'll need to come back in July to finish off a small section near Rata Road.
How it will affect you: Stop/go will be in place to make sure our team can carry out the works safely. Please allow a little more time for your journey and take care in the area.
