Easy access to the Ōtaki Māori Land Court Minute books and national index.
Ōtaki Māori Land Court Minute Books
The Ōtaki Māori Land Court Minute Books are bound photocopied volumes, containing judges' notes on court sittings held between 1865-1910.
They are an important source of whakapapa – containing the names of significant local places, land blocks and people.
This hard copy collection is for use in the Ōtaki library only and is a major asset for our library users, providing a window to days gone by.
Māori Land Court Index
Kāpiti Coast District Libraries also subscribes to an electronic index for the Māori Land Court Minute Books. The index provides easy and quick access to over 1100 minute books between 1865 and 1910.
The index covers the Taitokerau, Waikato-Maniapoto, Tairawhiti, Waiariki, Aotea, Takitimu, and Waipounamu Māori Land Court Districts.
Local Māori Land Court offices hold paper copies of minute books relevant to their region.
