Governance Roles

Would you like to be part of a team that assists with the setting and advancement of an organisation's strategic goals?  There are a number of varied and interesting governance roles across a diverse range of organisations on the Kapiti Coast available now.  

Funding Coordinator/Specialist

Are you a good planner and organiser?  Would you like to help a local organisation grow?  We are looking for Funding Specialists and Coordinators to help local organisations secure the funds they need for upcoming projects.  You will work closely with members of the Committee to plan, scope and budget for funding applications and opportunities for the year ahead.

Companion / Visitor roles

Do you enjoy building relationships and having a good chat? Would you like to help others remain independent and connected to their community? We have a number of rewarding companion and visitor volunteer roles available across the Kāpiti Coast.

Family Violence Free Champions

Are you passionate about family violence prevention?  Would you like to be involved with a community focused campaign that is helping those affected by family violence?  We are looking for great listeners who would like to be an open ear for individuals in the community to voice any concerns relating to family violence.

Home Tutor

Are you a teacher at heart and would like to help someone work on their English skills? We are looking for tutors to tutor English, one-on-one to adult migrants and help them integrate better into all aspects of their new life on the Kāpiti Coast.

Support and Transportation Worker

Waiting for appointments can be daunting.  Having someone sit and chat with you can make things feel so much better. If you would like to be that someone, then keep reading! This opportunity involves picking up and transporting clients to and from appointments and day activities, during which time your friendly presence will provide them with both physical and emotional support.

Youth Leader

Are you passionate about working with girls or young women? Would you like to be involved in inspiring and empowering them to turn their dreams into reality? We are looking for FUN and ENERGETIC volunteers to run high quality units! Currently 2 leaders need for Raumati Pippins and Brownies, however all suburb enquiries welcome.

Disaster Welfare Support Worker

Disaster welfare and support teams are made up of highly committed, multi-skilled emergency service volunteers from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. You will be delivering essential services to affected communities during and immediately following a disaster. Yours will be the friendly face at the Civil Defence centre, looking after people and families, or you could be out in the field, mucking in and getting on with the job. When you need to be mobile, it will be in state-of-the-art disaster welfare and support vehicles.

 Bike Mechanic

Do you just love tinkering with bikes? Then help us repair, refurbish and maintain our stock of bikes at our local bike library.  We are looking for someone that is familiar with bikes and happy to engage with others to pass on their knowledge.

 Home Tutor

Are you a teacher at heart and would like to help someone work on their English skills to enable them to better connect with their community?  We are looking for people to tutor English and engage with new members of our community to enhance their kiwi experience. 

Perceptual Motor Programme Helper

Do you enjoy helping young children develop their confidence and physical motor skills through movement and motor experiences?  We are looking for volunteers with great communication skills and patience to assist young children to better develop their environmental perception.

 Knitting Tutor

Are you a whizz with the knitting needles? Would you like to share your knowledge and skills with others?  We are looking for a Knitting Tutor to teach others the joy of knitting simple projects.  Help others to learn a new skill and increase their wellbeing.

 

Restoration and Maintenance Enthusiast

Do you enjoy working with machinery, tinkering and generally just working with your hands? We are looking for people to join our team and help with the restoration and maintenance of our vintage trams.

We are looking for volunteers that are friendly, relaxed and keen to get their hands dirty.

Help preserve and maintain the history of trams.

Animal Caregiver

If you love working with animals and helping to make a difference in their fluffy little lives, then this opportunity is perfect for you! In this role you will be helping in the shelter feeding, cleaning, enriching and general care of the shelter animals.

Help look after those who are unable to look after themselves.

Patroller

Are you passionate about empowering communities and creating safer environments?  Then this is the role for you!  We need patrollers to increase community awareness and resilience as well as being an additional set of eyes and ears for the Police.  Join this technically savvy team to help create a safer community.

Trust Board Member

Do you have a passion for supporting people with a disability? This local organisation requires a Trust Board Member to participate in the Board’s deliberations and decisions on matters such as policy, finance, programmes, personnel and advocacy. You will also attend bi-monthly meetings, support special events, and enjoy working as part of a positive team.

We are looking for a volunteer that has an understanding of the Not-for-Profit sector and a knowledge and experience of disabilities, or people with disabilities. Governance experience would also be preferable.  

Help with the strategy and ongoing sustainability of a much-needed community service.

Museum Host

Do you enjoy learning about the past?  If you want to get to know more about local history and bring it to life for our visitors, then this could be the role for you!

Walk and talk them through the domestic, educational, social, occupational, transportation, telecommunications or military life of early Waikanae and Kāpiti.  Enrich the experience of each visitor with your own blend of knowledge and interest.

We are looking for welcoming and chatty volunteers that have an interest in local history and the lives of people in days gone by.

Activities Assistant

Do you enjoy interacting with older people and love a good game of cards? We are look for people to assist with our fun day care activities programme for older people.

We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable with older people that may have memory challenges.  This role includes assisting with crafts, playing cards and games and other organised activities as needed.

Help to encourage participation and positive aging. 

Singing or Music Coach

Do you have musical talent?  Maybe you enjoy singing and/or playing an instrument?  Then have some fun and share your enjoyment with a small group of young adults who have an intellectual disability. 

Your friendly encouragement will go a long way towards increasing their participation and learning.  Maori or popular songs (ABBA, Boney M or similar) would be great!

We are looking for volunteers that have musical ability and are comfortable leading a small group of people in singing or playing a musical instrument. 

Help encourage participation and the enjoyment of music by all.

Environmental Enthusiast

Do you want to be part of the team that plants and maintains the Te Araroa Trail from Paekākāriki to Pukerua Bay?  If you are the outdoors type and you enjoy a few hours of exercise each week, this could be for you.  

The role involves planting native trees, controlling weeds, monitoring wildlife and generally helping to increase the coastal forest.  We are looking for volunteers that are reasonably fit, self-reliant and have a sense of adventure.

Help with the restoration and sustainability of our local environment.

Scout Leader

Are you interested in youth development? Do you want to help the children and young adults of the Kapiti Coast reach their full potential?

Scouts develop skills like teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment and we are looking for a Leader to coordinate a team of well organised people to deliver a fantastic programme of activities to youth members.

This varied role includes responsibilities such as the recruitment, training and retention of Leaders; overseeing the financial viability of the group; quality review of programme content; communication with youth and their parents; membership growth; administrative and records management; safety and risk compliance; as well as providing general support when required.

Help with the sustainability of the youth programmes on the Kāpiti Coast and watch our young people develop to get jobs, save lives and even change the world!

Gardening in Schools

Do you have green fingers?  Create a beautiful and inviting space for students to learn about gardening and growing their own food. This can be done either, with students and teachers in school hours, or out of school hours or weekends. If working during school hours suits you would be working with young people from early childhood age to college age.

  Bike Repair

The Paekākāriki Bike library is looking for people to help with bike repairs and fix ups. Learns skills on the job and or offer your expertise to help others learn.

Paekākāriki FM Audio Editor

Paekākāriki FM really needs someone with basic fast computer skills to learn to be our audio editor to help keep our Audio library of audio treasures from the community up to date. Anyone out there keen to get that experience and do good special but not difficult community work welcomed.
